絞首木 (The Hanging Tree. 1959) - 2
 
우리나라에서는 '교수목(絞首木)'이란 제목으로 1960년경에 국내 개봉.
감독은 당시 멜로드라마를 주로 다루던 Delmer Daves이고
주연은 Gary Cooper, 상대역은 Maria Schell('목로주점'에서 단연 빛났던
유럽 여배우로 첫 할리우드 진출작품),
그리고 중후한 성격배우 Karl Malden과 George C Scott 등이 출연했다.
이 영화를 찍을 때 게리 쿠퍼는 58세로 2년 뒤인 1961년에 60세를 일기로
타계했다.
음악은 '바람과 함께 사라지다'의 거장 Max Steiner이나, 주제가는
Jerry Livingston이 작곡하고 당시 인기가 높았던 컨트리 웨스턴 가수
Marty Robbins가 불렀다.
그의 나이 34살 때이고 이 곡은 그해 아카데미 주제가상 후보에 올랐으나
수상은 하지못했다.
그러나 마티 로빈스는 다음 해인 1960년에 그의 최고의 히트곡인
'El Paso'를 발표하여 빌보드 챠트 1위에 올랐고 그 해의 그래미상도 받았다.
이듬 해에는 'Don't Worry'를 내놓음으로 폭발적인 인기를 얻어
컨트리 웨스턴 음악계에 확고한 자리를 차지하게 된다.
